welcome and enjoy!

Hi and welcome to my blog about comics from other people’s childhood! It is dedicated primarily to British humour comics of the 60s and 70s. The reason they are not from my childhood is simply because I didn’t live in the UK back then (nor do I live there now). I knew next to nothing about them until fairly recently but since then I’ve developed a strong liking for the medium and amassed a large collection, including a number of complete or near complete sets. My intention is to use this blog as a channel for sharing my humble knowledge about different titles, favourite characters and creators as I slowly research my collection.

QUICK TIP: this blog is a sequence of posts covering one particular comic at a time. The sequence follows a certain logic, so for maximum results it is recommended that the blog is read from the oldest post up.

BUSTER COVERS GALLERY - PART 3

Here are the front covers of all five issues of BUSTER from August 1963. If I were asked to name my favourite month of the lot, it would probably have to be this one because I find all the covers particularly dramatic and attention-grabbing. You will see some equally good examples later on but IMHO in August 1963 the concentration of goodness was the greatest.

As I explained in my introduction to this series HERE, I started it hoping perhaps it will attract the attention of BUSTER collectors with spare copies of the title and they’ll help me fill my few remaining gaps. Please, contact me via e-mail if you have copies to sell or swap and don’t mind shipping abroad because I am not in the UK. I have 25 – 30 spare copies from the early 60s and might be able to help you fill some of your gaps, so e-mail me for a list and details about condition. See my blogger profile for the address.

BUSTER COVERS GALLERY - PART 2

Below are front covers of the four issues of BUSTER from July 1963. In my previous post I said this was going to be a lazy series but in fact scanning the covers involved quite an effort – they are tabloid-sized comics, some are in bound volumes. I had to be extra careful scanning them with my enlarged A4 machine and each image is stitched together from two scans.

BUSTER COVERS GALLERY - PART 1

I will kick-start the New Year with a series of lazy galleries of BUSTER covers from the 60s. The period from July 1963 till June 1964 is my favourite year of BUSTER covers. The sixties were the time when BUSTER wasn’t just a humour paper. It had all kinds of stories – from ghosts and mystery to western and sword-and-sorcery, from detective and war to superhero and action. Those memorable covers consisted of a striking splash panel representing a random non-humour story from the pages of the paper, followed by half-a-page introduction to Buster’s Diary entry of the week. The cover shown above is the first in the series. It belongs to the issue dated 27th April, 1963 – an experiment prior to the launch of the proper continuous run two months later on 6th July, 1963.

There are several reasons why I decided to do the BUSTER covers galleries. First of all preparations to do a comprehensive overview of MONSTER FUN COMIC are likely to take some time and posting the galleries is a way to keep this blog alive. Secondly, they are great covers. It took me quite a while to collect the set and there is a good chance many of you haven’t seen them all in one place (and some of you may have never seen them before at all…). Last but not least, I thought the series might attract the attention of BUSTER collectors with spare copies of the title and they will help me fill my few remaining gaps. Hence, below is the list of BUSTER issues I am after. Please, contact me via e-mail if you have copies to sell or swap and don't mind shipping abroad because I am not in the UK. I have 25 – 30 spare copies from the early 60s and might be able to help fill some of your gaps, so e-mail me for a list and details about condition. See my blogger profile for the address.
