I will
kick-start the New Year with a series of lazy galleries of BUSTER covers from
the 60s. The period from July 1963 till June 1964 is my favourite year of
BUSTER covers. The sixties were the time when BUSTER wasn’t just a humour paper.
It had all kinds of stories – from ghosts and mystery to western and sword-and-sorcery,
from detective and war to superhero and action. Those memorable covers
consisted of a striking splash panel representing a random non-humour story from the pages of the paper,
followed by half-a-page introduction to Buster’s Diary entry of the week.
The cover shown above is the first in the series. It belongs to the issue dated
27th April, 1963 – an experiment prior to the launch of the proper continuous run
two months later on 6th July, 1963.
There are
several reasons why I decided to do the BUSTER covers galleries. First of all
preparations to do a comprehensive overview of MONSTER FUN COMIC are likely to
take some time and posting the galleries is a way to keep this blog alive. Secondly,
they are great covers. It took me quite a while to collect the set and there is a good
chance many of you haven’t seen them all in one place (and some of you may have
never seen them before at all…). Last but not least, I thought the series might
attract the attention of BUSTER collectors with spare copies of the title and
they will help me fill my few remaining gaps. Hence, below is the list of
BUSTER issues I am after. Please, contact me via e-mail if you have copies to
sell or swap and don't mind shipping abroad because I am not in the UK. I have
25 – 30 spare copies from the early 60s and might be able to help fill some of your
gaps, so e-mail me for a list and details about condition. See my blogger profile
for the address.

ReplyDeleteG'day, Irmantas. Do you have any duplicate copies of Buster for the week ending 20/2/65 that you wish to sell me?
ReplyDeleteHi, Bruce, the spares that I have are from 1962, 1963 and a few from the late 60s, nothing from 1965, I.m afraid.
DeleteWhat a shame. Thanks anyway :(
