With
Christmas not too far away, how about a quick journey through time with 12 years of those festive SPARKY covers, both front and back.
Here
is the first part of the gallery, spanning years 1965 – 1971. Enjoy!

ReplyDeleteLinksmų Kalėdų to you too, Anonymous :)
DeleteThose Moonsters ones are beautiful! The 1970 one's nice as well.
ReplyDeleteHave a good one, Irmantas :)
hAVE A SAFE ONE, iRMANTAS.
ReplyDeleteSome really good covers there, Irmy. So much better than some of the ones which adorn comics today. Sparky himself would probably be regarded as an offensive racist caricature by some people nowadays, but to me he's simply a cartoon character like Fred Flintstone is. And I've never heard anyone ever complain that Fred is a racist caricature of a white man. Sparky was never belittled in his strip and was treated in the same way as other comic characters. That's equality.
ReplyDeleteA younger, less world-wise me would see Sparky as an alien, like a Moon Man or something, especially with that thing sticking out the top of his head.
DeleteI love the busy pages of the Moonsters..
ReplyDeleteHappy Christmas Irmantas..
look forward to your Whoopee revie when you are ready. :)
Irmantas, I noticed you missed the 1669 christmas issue. Do you have that issue? If you don't I'll post the cover up on my blog.
ReplyDeleteThanks for pointing this out, Bruce! I have somehow missed 1969 and will add the covers tomorrow...
DeleteThe Sparky character on the cover...sure borrowed ideas from other comic cover stars like Biffo the bear for example...I'm sure these ideas have been done before...
