welcome and enjoy!

Hi and welcome to my blog about comics from other people’s childhood! It is dedicated primarily to British humour comics of the 60s and 70s. The reason they are not from my childhood is simply because I didn’t live in the UK back then (nor do I live there now). I knew next to nothing about them until fairly recently but since then I’ve developed a strong liking for the medium and amassed a large collection, including a number of complete or near complete sets. My intention is to use this blog as a channel for sharing my humble knowledge about different titles, favourite characters and creators as I slowly research my collection.

QUICK TIP: this blog is a sequence of posts covering one particular comic at a time. The sequence follows a certain logic, so for maximum results it is recommended that the blog is read from the oldest post up.

A LOOK AT COR!! STRIPS: 5 MINUTE WANDA

5 Minute Wanda was a strip about a loopy lass who could do things for only 5 minutes because she got bored very quickly. It was illustrated by Graham Allen and had a very short run of just 15 weeks from 6th January, 1973 until 14th April, 1973 (Nos. 136 – 150).

First episode
From COR!! issue dated 24th February, 1973 (No. 143)

  2. I am taking it one step at a time. Fiends and Neighbours are a couple of weeks or so away from now :)

  3. The trouble with this strip was that the premise ‘bore’ (get it?) too close a resemblance to that of Eddie, although Graham Allen’s artwork as ever can’t be faulted. Rereading it in the British Library today, I recognized Wanda straightaway from reprints in an annual I had in my distant youth, but can’t recall which! A few EBay purchases should answer this, but if you’ve got the answer to hand I’d like to have it.

    1. Stephen, I am afraid I can't help with info on the Annual where the reprints were, sorry.

  4. It was Jackpot Annual 1980, no less than six strips. The happy memories that flooded back as I read it yesterday!
