welcome and enjoy!

Hi and welcome to my blog about comics from other people’s childhood! It is dedicated primarily to British humour comics of the 60s and 70s. The reason they are not from my childhood is simply because I didn’t live in the UK back then (nor do I live there now). I knew next to nothing about them until fairly recently but since then I’ve developed a strong liking for the medium and amassed a large collection, including a number of complete or near complete sets. My intention is to use this blog as a channel for sharing my humble knowledge about different titles, favourite characters and creators as I slowly research my collection.

QUICK TIP: this blog is a sequence of posts covering one particular comic at a time. The sequence follows a certain logic, so for maximum results it is recommended that the blog is read from the oldest post up.

SPARKY CHRISTMAS COVERS GALLERY - PART ONE

With Christmas not too far away, how about a quick journey through time with 12 years of those festive SPARKY covers, both front and back.

Here is the first part of the gallery, spanning years 1965 – 1971. Enjoy!

  3. Some really good covers there, Irmy. So much better than some of the ones which adorn comics today. Sparky himself would probably be regarded as an offensive racist caricature by some people nowadays, but to me he's simply a cartoon character like Fred Flintstone is. And I've never heard anyone ever complain that Fred is a racist caricature of a white man. Sparky was never belittled in his strip and was treated in the same way as other comic characters. That's equality.

    1. A younger, less world-wise me would see Sparky as an alien, like a Moon Man or something, especially with that thing sticking out the top of his head.

  6. The Sparky character on the cover...sure borrowed ideas from other comic cover stars like Biffo the bear for example...I'm sure these ideas have been done before...
